Preparing for year-round fire seasons

Thanks to the Habitat Authority’s wildfire resilience funding received from the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC), a state agency, a winter vegetation clearance effort was able to be performed in areas surrounding the Puente Hills Preserve where preserved open space meets residential neighborhoods. These efforts are designed to provide defensible space for first responders by removing hazardous vegetation along the wildland-urban interface, increasing wildfire safety and preparedness in the communities.

These efforts complement the annual spring/summer clearance efforts that the Habitat Authority regularly conducts. These wildfire resiliency efforts are not just about land stewardship, they are about protecting people, homes, critical infrastructure and open space. Proactive land management helps firefighters do their jobs more safely and effectively, while providing surrounding communities with greater peace of mind.

The state funding originates from the Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024, under Chapter 3 Wildfire and Forest Resilience.
