Year End Community Impact: Fiscal year July 2025 to June 2026
We are proud to continue to preserve and protect the Puente Hills Preserve each year for generations to come. Below are highlights of accomplishments this past fiscal year, and the corresponding workplan update staff report can be found with a click here.
- Preserved 5.5 acres of open space through acquisition
- Cleared 23 miles of trails for wildfire preparedness and recreational enjoyment, thanks to the rangers, Conservation Corps of Long Beach, and contractors
- Cleared 106 acres of urban wildland defensible space in the fall/winter for wildfire preparedness
- Cleared 136 acres of urban wildland defensible space in the spring/summer for wildfire preparedness thanks to Measure PH
- Maintained 1 trail with repairs, thanks to Measure PH
- Actively restoring 40 acres to native habitat, restoring/enhancing 282 acres overall for healthy ecosystems and wildlife preparedness
- Collected 86,155 wildlife camera images for monitoring the health of the Preserve
- Hosted 89 public hikes for community members, reached over 1,050 participants
- Community participation: 680 volunteer hours, equating to $28,390
- Hired first full time Recreation and Outreach Supervisor, thanks to Measure PH
- Created the Measure PH Fiscal Oversight Advisory Committee
- Purchased new fire-fighting vehicles and equipment which are in the process of being onboarded
- Increased ranger patrol and contract maintenance hours, thanks to Measure PH
- Executed and implemented grants for wildfire resiliency with the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and CalFire, totaling $5.1M of which both are multi-year programs.
