Thanking Our Amazing Volunteers! One of the Habitat Authority’s greatest strengths is our team of volunteers. These are people locally and regionally who take action to help inspire stewardship and help keep the trails clean and safe. Whether it involves leading educational school hikes, picking up litter, leading monthly themed hikes for trail enthusiasts, tabling at events, social media postings or helping with our wildlife camera study, these individuals make a difference every day for the Preserve. Puente Hills Preserve Wildlife Camera Study If you are a frequent visitor to the Puente Hills Preserve you may have noticed the wildlife cameras that began to spring up along the hiking trails back in December 2019. These small, motion triggered cameras are part of a year-long study to investigate the relationship between wildlife and recreational use patterns across the Preserve. With these cameras, and the data they collect, we hope to better understand what species of wildlife inhabit the Preserve, where certain species are occurring, and what times of the day they are active. April 10, 2020 Dear Preserve Visitors – As of March 23, 2020 the Habitat Authority closed until further notice the trails and trailheads it owns and manages in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision was made to support precautionary recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state of California, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, for the protection of everyone.  As it is unknown when it will be safe to resume normal activities, all Habitat Authority-sponsored public outreach events and educational programs have been cancelled or postponed through May to date.
