Dear Preserve Visitors –

As of March 23, 2020 the Habitat Authority closed until further notice the trails and trailheads it owns and manages in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision was made to support precautionary recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state of California, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, for the protection of everyone.  As it is unknown when it will be safe to resume normal activities, all Habitat Authority-sponsored public outreach events and educational programs have been cancelled or postponed through May to date. This situation is fluid, so please periodically visit our website www.HabitatAuthority.org for updates.

The Habitat Authority continues to manage the Preserve’s natural resources and provide essential daily services. While office staff are working primarily remotely, rangers continue to patrol daily and maintain the properties, and contractors continue to operate. Also, preparations are being made for the annual fire season weed abatement as has been done every year. All workers and contractors are required to implement precautionary measures as necessary in response to COVID-19.

We realize that this time is especially difficult for nature lovers that have enjoyed the trails on a frequent basis in the past. Rest assured, once the concern has subsided, access will resume. Until then, please continue to respect the Preserve closure and take this time to enjoy excursions in your local neighborhoods or wherever is safest for your respite.

We appreciate your support and understanding during this challenging time. We are all in this together.

Be well, safe, and healthy!

The Habitat Authority Team
